Why do K-pop idols and male celebrities in South Korea go to military for two years?
We're going to discuss that today.
In South Korea there is a law which states that every male celebrity or any civil male from 18 years old to 35 years old should've undergo a military training for at least 21 months.
It's not mandatory for girls but for men.
When one turns 18 he can go and volunteer to start his military training, military mandatory service and then eventually can go to college.
After that there is an amendment that he has to wait until he receives a notification saying "It's your time to do your duty as a citizen of South Korea".
He can also ask for the extension because of his schedule or any project before serving the country and joining the army.
There is also a law regarding this mandatory training that military service will be exempted if someone has a gold medal in any field, that he had already done a service for his country so no need for any other service.
This law implements on K-pop idols too, Before they turn 35 years old they need to do the military training.
Maybe one of your K-pop idols is about to do his military duty soon. Then you can wait until he finishes.
I think there should be strategy for future K-pop idols that they can choose to join military training when they turn 18/19 so they can finish their service earlier at the age of 20/21.
Then it would be the peak of their career.
There can be another strategy also, For example if there are five group members all-male. They can go and finish their training altogether.
All South Korean male have the amendment of the law, that they have to go whenever their MMA tell them to go regardless of their schedules.
So these were the reasons behind why male celebrities, K-pop male idols go to military.
Just because it's their duty to do so being South Korean.
